About Us
Formed by a group of Global-minded IT executives, Green Computing Impact Organization (GCIO) was created to be an active participant in transforming the IT community from an environmental liability to an Earth conscious example of responsibility. GCIO is a non-profit organization incorporated in the State of Massachusetts. Based on environmental audit programs in place for consumers and small business homes, with respect to general energy-efficiency programs (including lighting, heating, insulation, etc.), GCIO brings the same type of program to the Fortune 1000 IT user community. We do so through free IT audits sponsored by membership programs with the technology vendor community, government grants and private donations.
GCIO’s mission is to educate and assist enterprise technology users in the design of environmentally aware and responsible information system operations. Through IT system environmental audits, educational outreach programs and events we help IT departments become more environmentally responsible by reducing energy consumption and electronic waste in an effort to protect the Earth.
GCIO does NOT recommend or specify specific technology solutions, rather we provide the foundational information a company needs to make these decisions and act as an agent for connecting users of technology with the solution providers that can assist them in making green technology migrations.
GCIO provides:
1) Environmental audits of Enterprise computing architectures
2) Environmental advocacy and promotion
3) Educational outreach programs on environmentally responsible computing strategies
4) An independent forum for connecting enterprise users with solution vendors in a non-intrusive, low pressure and secure manner
GCIO’s Goals
GCIO’s goals, include, without limitation, the following:
- To provide end users with the necessary well researched and competent information about available Green Computing products in order to promote wide adoption;
- To make “going green” easier for IT shops by assisting in the planning process.
- To connect prospective users of environmentally responsible computing products with the vendors that supply them.
- To encourage the use of environmentally friendly technology products and services;
- To encourage the creators of technology products and services to have a vested interest in insuring they offer products that are environmentally responsible.
